It was a VERY warm day at The Carnegie Abbey Club when golfers teed off on Day One of the Newport Tennis Smash to benefit the Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation. Even the video cameras sought refuge from the 90+ degree sun.

Tennis Hall of Famer, Stan Smith, took a moment from his round to chat with The Tennis Channel's Mieke Buchan.

USPTA professional, Chuck Gill and fellow Gullikson Foundation board member, Andy Custer had a chat with Mieke, too!

Tennis Hall of Fame member, Rod Laver, is a pro in every sense of the word after spending several hot hours on the golf course, then helping out during a tennis clinic at The Carnegie Abbey Club.

It was tennis (almost) the old fashioned way at the Newport Smash pro-am at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.

Samantha stole the show -- along with other brain tumor survivors -- at the Newport Smash gala. Samantha Scolamiero of Somerville, Mass., a past Tim Gullikson Spirit Award winner, she shared her amazing story of survival and perseverance with Bud Collins the dinner crowd that gave her a standing ovation.

Martina Navratilova was presented a Fame blazer after she officially lent the International Hall of Fame two of her Wimbledon trophies before the Foundation's exhibition matches in Newport.

The legends arrive...Tom Gullikson, Stan Smith and Rod Laver walk out to join Martina Navratilova on the stadium court at the International Hall of Fame for some mixed doubles fun. Each player signed their racquets for an impromptu live auction which generated $11,000 to help fund more support programs for brain tumor patients and their families.

Lori Skloff, a brain tumor survivor who recently earned her college degree in nursing, proudly showed off her diploma to Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation chairman, Tom Gullikson.

The Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 organization founded in 1995 to help brain tumor patients and their families manage the physical, emotional and social challenges presented by the illness. The Foundation was conceived and formed by tennis professionals Tim Gullikson and his twin brother, Tom, when Tim was diagnosed with brain tumors in 1995. He lost his battle with the illness in May, 1996.
